It was a good weekend for Mr. & Mrs. Mahi as Rs. 17.12 crores came in. The film started really well on Cinema Lovers Day as Rs. 6.85 crores came in. This was far better than what one expected from it. Later on, Saturday too it showed a decent enough hold with Rs. 4.65 crores being scored. This time, it was an expected number since word of mouth had been largely positive around the film. Later on, Sunday it grew all over to Rs. 5.62 crores and that has ensured an overall good weekend.
Of course, it would have helped the film had Sunday actually come close to the Friday numbers or in fact even better, surpassed it. However, that was always going to be a tough call because there is primarily an urban segment of audiences for which the film has been made and hence it’s bound to find numbers coming from select cities. It’s these very metros where the Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor starrer is getting its footfalls and hence the overall numbers too are in accordance to that, instead of breaking through the interiors and smaller centres as well.
That said, considering the kind of budget that Mr. & Mrs. Mahi has been made, which is similar to that of Srikanth, it doesn’t need huge numbers to emerge as a success. A Rs. 30 crores lifetime will take it through and anything over and above Rs. 40 crores would be good for the film in the final run. The kind of response that has come the film’s way, that’s the kind of lifetime it would be aiming at as well.
