Mr. And Mrs. Mahi had a good weekend at the box office as the opening day (Cinema Lovers Day) of Rs. 6.85 crores was followed well by Rs. 4.65 crores on Saturday with Sunday showing some growth again due to Rs. 5.62 more crores coming in. Since the film had an uneven trajectory during the weekend due to a holiday like scenario being already created on the opening day, one couldn’t look at a regular 50% drop from Friday on Monday. The drop was bound to be bigger but as long as collections stayed in upwards of Rs. 2 crores, it was going to be all fine.
This is what happened as Rs. 2.21 crores came on Monday. With normal ticket rates coming into picture and no BOGO kind of offer coming into picture either, these are decent enough numbers. Moreover, without Cinema Lovers Day, Friday numbers would have been in Rs. 3-4 crores range in the best case scenario so compared to that too, the hold has been decent enough with the four day total reaching Rs. 19.33 crores.
What’s required now is for the film to stay in the same zone right through the week, something that had worked well for another Rajkummar Rao release, Srikanth. That film had started at Rs. 2.42 crores and then stayed around Rs. 1.50 crore mark right through the week. With that kind of a hold, it’s now heading towards a lifetime of Rs. 53-55 crores. Now Mr. And Mrs. Mahi may not be aiming for a half century here but as long as it steps into that Rs. 34-40 crores range for its lifetime, it would be decent enough going by its moderate budget.
