Box Office: Dunki and Salaar (Hindi) collect over Rs. 5 crores between them on Thursday, have one more weekend to gather Rs. 10 crores each
It was a passable day for both Dunki and Salaar (Hindi) as a little over Rs. 5 crores came between them on Thursday. Both films collected in the whereabouts of Rs. 3 crores each and went through that survival period at the close of Week 2. They have been managing the kind of score which was expected at the bare minimum during the weekdays post the New Year which is traditionally dull as the festivities eventually come to an end.
While Dunki now stands at Rs. 209 crores*, Salaar has reached Rs. 135 crores* in the Hindi version. Though the difference between the two films is primarily due to the initial that they had taken, there isn’t much to differentiate now when it comes to the daily total which has been more or less similar since Tuesday. Not much will change in days to come either since Dunki will keep catering to the family audiences whereas Salaar would be targeting the gentry.
The ultimate aim would be for both the films to now gather around Rs. 10 crores each in the coming weekend and end the week with more than Rs. 15 crores each in their kitty. There is zero problem related to screens and shows now, and in fact a few have even gone to Animal and Sam Bahadur with certain properties even reviving blockbusters like Jawan, Pathaan and Gadar 2.
With an above average verdict coming their way, both films could well have done better without a clash. Of course, all of this is easy to say in retrospect, but this could well be considered for future big clashes, what with Singham Again and Pushpa 2 already staring down our face.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
