After seeing an expected drop in numbers on Tuesday after a long holiday season, both Dunki and Salaar (Hindi) had a stable Wednesday. With the two films catering to altogether different target audience and having ample number of screens and shows to their disposal, they are not cutting into each other’s business and are now purely running on their individual merits and the demographics that they are catering to.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki collected Rs. 3.50 crores* more and that has brought the total to Rs. 206.58 crores*. While the film is currently running in theatres, it’s way too uncanny that a couple of more international flights have come under scrutiny for ‘dunki’ expedition of hundreds of Indians. In fact, had this happened in the first weekend of the film’s release or perhaps a bit earlier, then rest assured, the Rajkumar Hirani directed social drama would have found all the more prominence.
As for Salaar (Hindi), it is managing to stand in its own and keeping the buzz rolling. The film is, of course, being helped by the fact that there is no other competition apart from Dunki and that too has lived its life after the first 10-11 days. Now it’s all about reaching out to its own target audience and that’s happening with Rs. 3.50 crores more coming in. Yes, of course an initial matters a lot and that would have been higher by at least Rs. 20-25 crores over the first weekend had the film arrived solo. Further, that would have reflected in the trending too. That’s what would have contributed to around Rs. 40-50 crores more in the final run which would have made this one a Rs. 200 Crores Club grosser. Currently, the film stands at Rs. 132.59 crores and will eventually go past the Rs. 150 crores mark.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
