It was a BLACK FRIDAY for Bollywood as there was practically no new release. 2024 has been a very uneven year for the entire film industry and that too across all languages, and the trend is just continuing month after month, week after week. There is continued period of no major releases or, in fact, none at all, and while last week still saw the release of Jigra and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, this week there was nothing at all that arrived.
Yes, there were re-releases of films like Singham, Khosla Ka Ghosla and Sooraj Pe Mangal Bhari, but the collections were nothing great. One can understand the arrival of Singham to set the stage for Singham Again but the other two films have released primarily to try their luck in this re-release season, something that’s more miss than a hit if one looks at the fact that hardly a couple of re-releases have actually worked.
With Jigra not really doing well in its first week and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video being just passable, the only benefit they are getting is that there is zero competition around them as a result of which they were still the top collecting movies of Friday. Still, the numbers per se were not really there. No wonder, between all the Hindi films in the running, just about Rs. 3 crores* came in, which is one of the lowest Fridays ever of 2024, hence making one crave all for biggies like Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 to make a mark this Diwali.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
