In this column it was predicted that Mr. & Mrs. Mahi will take a start in the range of Rs. 5-6 crores. After all, the film was arriving on Cinema Lovers Day with tickets priced at just Rs. 99. Moreover, there was also genuine interest in the film and that was bound to push the momentum as well.
As it happened though, the collections have turned out to be better than expected. The film has opened at Rs. 6.85 crores and that’s a really good number since one had been waiting for shows to be going houseful on the very first day for a really long time. The last time this happened to some extent was when Shaitaan released and prior to that Fighter. However, for a film to see several houseful shows right from morning till night has been a rare sight and Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, which was released on much lesser screen count, has done that so well and that too in a regular working day, which is a great sign.
Of course, reduced ticket prices had a big role to play in this well but the good part is that the film has also seen all around positive reviews as well as audience word of mouth, which means it should do well today and tomorrow as well. One won’t really see growth today and in fact the numbers may even go down by a crore. Still, a weekend of Rs. 15 crores is on the cards and that should take through this Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor starrer.
