Box Office: Bollywood has a decent to good week as Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, Savi and Srikanth bring in over Rs. 40 crores
In the last couple of months, when there were multiple flops and disasters, the only shining spot has been Srikanth, which is inching towards the Rs. 50 crores mark. However, the week gone by was relatively better with three films, including Srikanth as well, came together to bring in over Rs. 40 crores, hence resulting in one of the better time period for the exhibition sector.
Let’s talk about the new releases Mr. & Mrs. Mahi and Savi first. Former comes from the house of Dharma Productions with Zee Studios collaborating as well while latter has T Series and Vishesh Entertainment joining hands. The Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor starrer is a social romantic sports drama whereas Divya Khossla led film is a dramatic thriller. Both have different kind of tonality and audience base to them, though principally they were both catering to the multiplex audiences. While the former brought in Rs. 24.89 crores, latter collected Rs. 9.50 crores*, and these are decent enough numbers basis the star cast, merits as well as expectations.
On the other hand, Srikanth, which is currently in its fourth week, brought in Rs. 6.02 crores, which is a decent enough number as well. Just like the other two films, this one too benefitted from Cinema Lovers Day on Friday, which gave it a healthy push past the Rs. 1 crore mark. The Rajkummar Rao starrer currently stands at Rs. 47.28 crores and should cross Rs. 50 crores mark by Sunday or Monday.
While the week gone by has been fine, this week too should see some spark if initial reports and occupancy of Munjya are anything to go by.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited.
