The mere announcement of filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal made more than heads turn. Apart from the casting of Ranbir Kapoor, this also had to do with the fact that the director’s Hindi debut Kabir Singh became a runaway blockbuster. It was the remake of his own Telugu film Arjun Reddy. When Animal was ready for release, it seemed as if the film’s runtime of 3 hours and 23 minutes and the Adults only certificate might hamper its collections but that never happened at all. In fact, the movie turned out to be one of the biggest blockbusters ever.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetan, the movie starring Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Tripti Dimri roared in the opening weekend where it collected a huge sum of Rs. 201.76 crores. It then finished the first week at a mammoth Rs. 338.63 crores. From here on, it was just a matter of time before the movie became the fourth of 2023 to reach the Rs. 500 crores club after Pathaan, Gadar 2 and Jawan.
As per latest box office updates, Animal refuses to die down at the ticket window as it completed its fifth week with an impressive number of Rs. 7.50 crores. This has also ensured that the film has reached the milestone of Rs. 550 crores. Its total currently stands at Rs. 550.43 crores.
With the Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer Fighter being almost two weeks away, Animal has a chance of continuing its dream run till then.
