It was a good fourth day for Avatar: The Way of Water as it ended up collecting Rs. 18 crores* at the box office. Yes, this is a drop from Friday collections of Rs. 41 crores but then that was an extraordinary number to begin with and hence a drop was bound to come. When looked at in isolation, this is a very good number. More so since ticket rates are reduced in weekdays, though in all fairness that’s also compensated by the fact that the film is gaining a lot from higher priced IMAX, 3D and 4DX shows.
What makes these numbers look all the more good is the fact that the fourth day here is bigger than the first day of three of the biggest Bollywood openers of 2022, Drishyam 2 (Rs. 15.38 crores), Ram Setu (Rs. 15.25 crores) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (Rs. 14.11 crores). Two of these films went on to be blockbusters so that again shows how big Avatar: The Way of Water is in comparison.
So far the film has collected Rs. 146 crores* and by the time the second weekend comes to a close, it would have edged past Drishyam 2 which is on course to hit Rs. 225 crores around the same time. For this superb feat to be achieved in 10 days flat would be amazing for the exhibition circle because what’s needed currently is footfalls, regardless of the language that a film belongs to and the country of origin. Eventually, the James Cameron directed sci-fi drama will cross Brahmastra as well and then it would have to be seen where does it land up eventually.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
