Thank God Advance Booking Report: Ajay Devgn starrer dependent on spot bookings; pre-sales of under Rs. 75 lakhs

Ajay Devgn returns to the festive Diwali season with Indra Kumar's Thank God co-starring Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh. As of Monday early morning, the movie has record low advance booking with ticket sales around 27,000 across the country. The all-India gross total of Thank God with this sale is around Rs. 70 lakhs and this is very low for a post-Diwali release.

Of the total 27,000 tickets, around 12,000 tickets have been sold in the three national chains - PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis - and this result is lower than this year's big star underperformers like Raksha Bandhan, Prithviraj, and Shamshera. Thank God will heavily depend on spot bookings to put up a decent day one in the north of double-digit number. If the spots are poor, a single-digit start might be on cards for Thank God.

The good news for Thank God lies in the fact that it's a comedy releasing in the Diwali period and the audience who steps out to watch films during this festival would always prefer a comedy over anything else. This gives it an edge to score well through a walk-in audience and make up for the shortfall of business on an opening day.

A start of about Rs. 12 to 13 crore will be considered a decent result, but a sub Rs. 10 crore opening would have things tough for the film in the days to come. Thank God needs to have good movement on Monday and carry it forward on the day of release to score good numbers.

It's all not over yet as Diwali releases (barring Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Happy New Year, and Thugs of Hindostan) have always been low in advance and high on spot. Barring the three Khans, not many have the ability to excite the audience to buy tickets in advance and the hope is on Thank God to get some audience on the day of release due to the holiday factor as also the comedy genre.
