Doctor G Box Office: Film opens reasonably well, should do well for Ayushmann Khurranna

Doctor G has opened reasonably well at Rs. 3.87 crores. Films belonging to this genre which has a restricted target audience (especially post pandemic) have not really seen much of an opening in 2022 and hence the kind of numbers which have actually come in are still decent. Of course, with Ayushmann Khurranna in the lead, an opening in Rs. 8-10 crores is more optimal and even in current times something around Rs. 5 crores would have had a better ring to it. However, 2022 is an year of extremes and hence something in the range of Rs. 5-10 crores has hardly come.

Nonetheless, the good news is that there is appreciation for the film as well and when compared to Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, there is at least a bit more broader audience. Of course, that film was about Ayushmann falling in love with a girl after her sex change operation and this one is about him turning into a male gynaecologist, which means we are still looking at a restricted set of audience. Also, if one looks at Ayushmann’s 100 Crore Club grossers then Badhaai Ho, Bala and Dream Girl were not as extreme in terms of the subjects that the actor has been exploring. Hence, even if Doctor G does Rs. 50 crores in its lifetime then it would be sone solace.

Since the word of mouth is nice for the film and critical acclaim too is decent, there are chances that Doctor G would be able to do that. For that growth over the weekend is a must and given the trending so far, it seems possible as well.
