The Kashmir Files Box Office Collections Day 1: Kashmir Files surpasses expectations on Day 1; collects Rs. 3.35 cr

Let’s begin with some good news. Theatres are back in action with as many as four films currently in the running, and that too across genres. If The Kashmir Files is a realistic affair, Radhe Shyam is fantasy. If Gangubai Kathiawadi is about a real super-woman then The Batman is about a fiction superhero. As a result, audiences have a lot of choices and that’s seen in the footfalls which are being generated across theatres.

The film which has caught everyone’s attention all of a sudden is The Kashmir Files. It was being predicted that the film will open in Rs. 1.50-2 crores at best. Even that would have been quite good since Vivek Agnihotri’s last film in this series, The Tashkent Files, had opened at Rs. 0.40 crores. However, the film has surprised, and how, with a very good Rs. 3.55 crores coming in. Releases on a restricted count of screens, the film has gained appreciation from all quarters and will see wonderful collections today and tomorrow as well.

Same can’t be said about Radhe Shyam which has struggled on the very first day of release. An expensive film where on each of the frames one can see the money being spent, courtesy its production design as well as liberalise of VFX, the Prabhas and Pooja Hegde couldn’t catch audience attention en route its release. Rest was taken care of the post release reports and as a result the film could neither open, nor gain momentum over the rest of the day, hence closing at a mere Rs. 5.10 crores*.

Meanwhile Gangubai Kathiawadi is having an uninterrupted run as there is a regular stream of audiences that is continuing to step in. The Alia Bhatt starrer brought in Rs. 2.75 crores* on its third Friday as well and that has propelled the numbers to Rs. 108.39 crores*. The film should comfortably get to Rs. 115 crores before close of weekend and then the journey towards the Rs. 125 crores milestone should be rather smooth. HIT.
