Even though it was the sixth day for the film, Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi fell less than 50% when compared to Friday (Rs. 10.50 crores). This is what makes the Wednesday collections of Rs. 6.21 crores, all the more impressive because thankfully the drop has not yet come, which means the second weekend can well be expected to score good as well.
Of course, there is Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund coming in as well (which will primarily take off on Saturday and Sunday) and Robert Pattinson’s The Batman (which will impact Gangubai Kathiawadi from today itself since it’s releasing early), due to which one can’t really foresee how much variation would there be in the numbers. Still, even in the worst case scenario, a century is on the cards for producers Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada who can now start looking for profits as well from the film. In the current times when just recovery for a biggie qualifies it to be a success and even little bit of profits make it a hit, this Alia Bhatt starrer is in a safe zone now.
With Rs. 63.53 crores in its kitty already and a century set to be scored within two weeks of its theatrical run, Gangubai Kathiawadi is now the second success story from Bollywood after Sooryavanshi. Now one waits to see more movies join this league and revive the industry which can well do with many more such successes.
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources.
