Gangubai Kathiawadi Box Office Collections: Film set to be Alia Bhatt’s biggest solo grosser, Jhund hangs on
Alia Bhatt’s highest grossing solo release Raazi had done Rs. 123.84 crores in its lifetime run. Now the manner in which Gangubai Kathiawadi is doing currently, the film is set to be her biggest ever, hence surpassing the Meghna Gulzar film. Though at one point in time it seemed like touch and go, the manner in which it grew well on Women’s Day (Rs. 4.01 crores) and then stayed stable on Wednesday and Thursday (with around Rs. 3 crores* each coming in), has propelled the collections further.
Currently standing at Rs. 105.64 crores*, the film is going great guns with a tremendous per day average. For a film that opened at Rs. 10.50 crores, it is wonderful to see it go past the Rs. 100 crores mark in 15 days itself. For Sanjay Leela Bhansali this is his fourth consecutive century after Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. A bonafide hit, it has pretty much done the job for the industry by opening up theatres.
As for Jhund, it is doing well primarily in Maharashtra. This is where the film is set to, considering Nagpur as he city where all the action happens, and regional flavour means the collections are also coming in from adjoining areas. So far, the collections of the film stand at Rs. 11.30 crores and that’s some respite considering the opening day of Rs. 1.50 crores. Despite the release of new films (Radhe Shyam, The Kashmir Files), some shows have been retained for the film, and especially in Maharashtra it is still expected to continue delivering. One waits to see if it keeps the pace on to some extent and ends up getting close to the Rs. 20 crores mark.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
