Bachchhan Paandey Box Office Day 1: Akshay Kumar starrer opens on good note; collects Rs. 13.25 cr on first Friday
Bachchhan Paandey, which released on a limited count of screens (especially with Akshay Kumar leading from the front, which otherwise would have warranted 3500+ screens on arrival), managed to put up better occupancy number as it started at Rs. 13.25 crores. While Anupam Kher starrer The Kashmir Files has a larger share of screens to its name and is creating havoc in terms of absolute numbers, by means of theatre occupancy Bachchhan Paandey was better at number of properties as several shows also saw houseful signs.
Yes, the number is quite good in terms of the overall scenario, though a biggie like this indeed warranted a start of over Rs. 20 crores, something that was there for the taking if not for the competition. Add to that the Holi factor which resulted in several states opening cinemas only post afternoon and we are taking about a potential Rs. 23-25 crores opener here, which would have been superb.
That said, these are ifs and buts since the competition is still not going by where and the coming Friday it is going to further aggravate with Ram Charan and Jr. NTR starrer RRR also coming. For now, the first immediate milestone for the Sajid Nadiadwala production is to go past the Rs. 50 crores mark during the first weekend. Again, in a regular situation it would be comfortably possibility for a film that opens at Rs. 13.25 crores. However, there are other variables coming into play as well, so it’s going to be a close watch.
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources.
