After almost a year of lockdown theatres have finally begun functioning and filmmakers have been rushing to announce release dates of their pending ventures. But away from the forthcoming films, the Rajkummar Rao – Janhvi Kapoor starrer Roohi recently hit screens to mixed response from the audience. The reason being such response was the apprehension to venture into crowded public spaces, especially with reports that the Covid-19 virus was spreading again. However, despite this the film has managed to do rather well, keeping to expectations at the box office window.
In this special report we take a look at the opening weekend collections of Roohi while comparing the same to Rajkummar Rao’s previous releases. Collecting Rs. 12.58 cr over its four day extended weekend Roohi has managed to become Rao’s third highest all-time opening weekend grosser. While his previous releases Stree and Judgemental Hai Kya that had collected Rs. 31.26 cr and 19 cr respectively, ranks as Rao’s first and second highest all-time opening weekend grossers, the business of Roohi has surpassed a few of his other releases. In fact, Roohi has fared much better than Rao’s other releases like Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga that collected Rs. 11.83 cr, Bareilly Ki Barfi that collected Rs. 11.52 cr, Dolly Ki Doli that collected Rs. 10.75 cr, and Queen that had collected Rs. 10 cr.
Currently, Roohi continues to run in theatres with predictions stating that the business of the film will continue to see growth in its first week. However, with the resurgence of the Covid-19 virus, certain locations are facing night curfews while a few others have been put under lockdown. This situation might have a derogatory effect on the film’s overall collections, but trade analysts still hold hope that the business of Roohi will see good growth.
